"Road of no return" Memorial

"Road of no return" Memorial Závodská cesta

"Road of no return" Memorial  אנדרטת "דרך ללא חזרה stands on the place where the biggest reception camp was established in order to deport 20 000 up to 25 000 Jews from entire Slovakia from March to October during the Second World War in 1942.

Municipal Council of Žilina, led by the mayor Vojtech Tvrdý, rejected the reception camp to be established on the town territory and that is the reason why it was established in the state rooms, in the barracks of Žilina, on 21st March 1942. It was abolished on 24th October 1942. The memorial was devoted by the city of Žilina with purpose to sign the honour to those sad events. It was Arieh Klein (*1927), Žilina´s native living in Jerusalem, who was the author of the idea to build the memorial on the same place, where the old reception camp was.
